The following letter was forwarded to Chesley Brown via email, but originally appeared as a letter to the editor in the Kansas City Star.
"We who frequent the Westport entertainment district would like to extend thanks to the good people who have taken notice of the troubling security issues of years past and found a solution that has brought our most treasured restaurants and clubs back to being safe and fun again. Westport is no longer a place to be afraid of late at night, thanks to the persistent and creative efforts of the Westport Community Improvement District security team, the Kansas City Police Department and the welcome addition of the Jackson County Sheriff.
I have been paying close attention to the attitudes of Jackson and Johnson county residents for the past several years, and it seemed that Westport had taken a beating in the collective psyche. I am happy to report that this summer Westport was never scary or unsafe and that we have enjoyed making it a regular stop once again.
A special thank-you to [Chesley Brown], the security company that has taken over in Westport and also to our favorite restaurants and night spots that have put forth a winning effort into reclaiming our weekend fun. Thank you, Westport, and welcome back.
